Yosemite National Park covers 1,170 square miles in the central Sierra Nevada mountains, which makes it about the same size as the state of Rhode Island.

Yosemite Valley, the most popular and best known area of the park is at 4,300 feet and is accessible year-round by car. Meanwhile the higher elevations, such as the Tioga Road and Glacier Point are only accessible from May thru October.

Most of the waterfalls in the valley only flow for about six months each year from March thru August.
